I finally took the plunge and changed my spec. I tried and stayed 33/0/28 for our 2 nights in Mt Hyjal. I went deep in the arms tree to get MS and Blood Frenzy but also took some essential points in the protection tree.
This spec is purely for off-tanking and providing some dps and utility to the raid. With my gear level, tanking trash is not a problem. Looking at my tps, I am generating 600-700 which is low compared to my protection spec tps. But since we bring a bunch of tanks my target is usually the 2nd or 3rd amongs the kill order so threat wasn't be an issue. The priest who was healing me whispered me and told me that he didn't have any issues healing me on this spec which is always a good sign.
When it comes to dps, it really increased. I was able to do 600+ on the 1st boss and 800+ on the 2nd boss but I had WF so that might have bumped it up alittle bit.
All in all, I think the spec worked and I would be staying that way all of Mt Hyjal and possibly all of Black Temple too.

blood frenzy and prot always seemed like a smart idea to me. glad to see it worked.
You should build a set of fury gear and just use it in full prot spec for devestate spam. Going deeper into BT, Hyjal, and eventually Sunwell it becomes very important that tanks be able to hold their own in damage. So much so that many guilds use 2 feral tanks for Brutallis so that whichever bear isn't tanking can go cat for added DPS.
But for fights where you know ahead of time that you won't be needed as a tank, dev-spam in fury gear can produce some decent numbers.
Our OT goes dev-spam mode for a couple of fights (Gorefiend, Archimonde, Naj'entus, ROS) and is able to consistently exceed 1,000DPS. His fury gear is made up mostly of badge gear, pvp gear, and maybe 1-2 BT/Hyjal drops.
Blood Frenzy is nice though, but you could definitely pump out more damage as full prot, or even Devestate/Impale spec.
