Well as you have guess from the title of my post, I wiped the raid again. Fall down from the top of the platform while tanking Alar. This fight has really been giving me problems, I think I am concentrating but for some reason I keep falling down.
Tanking has been tough for me the past couple of weeks. I think I have hit the wall and it is beginning to feel like a labor to me. I find it hard to even try heroic 5 mans, I just don't feel like tanking it even if I know I can benefit from the drops. Did Blizzard made the game so easy with other alternatives that running dungeons every single night is irrelevant now?
I mean, I would rather spend 2 hours doing mindless, less challenging dailies to get gold than go and spend 2 hours in heroic dungeon. I rather spend 2-4 hours farming Karazhan for easy badges than go do ZA. I think you get my drift here.

Don't let it get you down man, we all go through slumps. I find that the heroic that makes me the happiest is Black Morass. Tank 1 mob, Tank 1 mob, win.
While your dpsers might be like... "What! I have everything from there!" That's where you pull the card of ... I've been tankin' your stinkin' dungeons forever... I need to relax :P
As for Al'ar... I think you are just standing too close to the edge. Perhaps you've got your strafe, movement or auto-run keys too close to your abilities? What also might help is to stop worrying about looking at him... once you've got auto attack on then just concentrate on where you are standing... there is no threat... there's no way they can pull agg off ya :P
Keep on trying, I know you'll find your groove.
I think you and I are both very similar in both our raid progression, and in how we react when we know that we were responsible for wiping the raid.
First, our guild has been progressing right about the same length you have...we killed the first MH boss just last week, and have all SSC bosses down but Vashj and all TK but Al'ar and Kael. It's weird, because we've now downed the first boss in BT, but still can't get Al'ar down.
I'm always fully on my game whenever I'm raiding...but for some reason yesterday, I couldn't pick up the Lynx spirit in ZA, that led to us wiping twice. I've never had a problem, but after those two, our RL called it so we could have some downtime before raiding later. I couldn't focus on much else, so I just signed off for the rest of the night.
I've also started to hit the wall a bit in terms of tanking...I get all my dailies done, but I usually am never in the mood to do a Heroic. I prefer just to wait to get Kara out of the way for the week to get all the badges, in much shorter time.
So here's what I've been doing when I've started to feel a little burned out: 1) PvP - I'm trying to put together a pretty nice DPS set, and be somewhat useful in Arenas while still staying prot. So I just PvP over and over again. 2) Go fishing. Sometimes it's nice just to take a break from mashing buttons, and just cast some lines to see what I can get. 3) Run some old pre-BC instances. I recently 5 manned Onyxia...and it was more fun than I've had in a very long time playing this game. I've also been trying to see how many 60 and above dungeons I can solo.
So that's just my two cents after reading your latest post.
Don't let it get you down bro! Just to echo Vene and Attorney, we all go through slumps and need some "ME" time. Lately I have been respeccing for Arenas/BGs after almost every raid. I do just enough dailies to cover my costs and then melt faces until my tanking stress is gone. Funny how being able to actually kill stuff can make you feel more satisfied than absorbing ungodly amounts of damage sometimes.
As for Al'ar, just focus on the edge and being in LoS once you get to your platform. I always do a test run with my healers for each platform I am tanking(we do it with 2-3 up top and 1 on the adds) to ensure I know exactly how close I need to be to stay in LoS.
Stay Positive, Warrior!
Man I am with ya brother. I just hit a wall. I've been a tank ever since the game came out, and I tanked everything from Gruul, to Void Reaver. It's just when I log on to tank I don't feel up to it. Not to mention everyone wants me to take the lead. I just want to sit back and do my job, and not worry what the healer or dps are doing. So I dunno been taking huge breaks leveling a mage, and let the other tanks handle it in my guild. We got some real compentent ones, so they don't miss me all that much.
I agree fully. It feels like tanking has become a chore more than an enjoyment. It could be that I hate repeating content, I'm on the brink of getting into a BT guild so I might get to see some new content...that might spice it up a bit.

My guild just downed Alar earlier this week for the very first time, I wiped us once (5 tanks, I'm on platform 4) because I didn't see him fly to the center and got fried, then he came to my platform and he buffet'dized the raid.
It happens mate.
PRO-TIP: Go on Hiatus and get some normal sleep. Don't touch wow for like... a week. Seriously. It'll be good for ya. Your guild's got other tanks. Seriously. Do It.
It's normal to get burnt after a while we've all been there. The key is to get back to where you can enjoy it again. I personally am with Vene I love BM and tanking easy heroics or old world dungeons is great fun. Another idea is to make a "hide out" character. Just don't tell your friends who you are so that you can enjoy a little uninterupted and stressless playtime.
I've been there. I'm a resto drood. Never late for a raid, always prepared. But it gets sooo boring healing trash. I know tanking can get like that 2. Same thing OVER and OVER and OVER.
I reccomend rolling an alt you can go have fun with. It breaks up the cycle of boringness. It worked for me. Rolled a mage to pvp, daily etc. Such a change from healing it made WoW fun again :)
