AC tried to take down Jan'alai (the dragonhawk boss) again last night to no avail. We got him down to 9% on 1 try but didn't make the 10 minute enrage timer wherein we basically wiped the whole raid. That was the closest we got ...We can't seem to get the timing right. This fight is all about trying to manage dps and managing the dragonhawks that hatchers spawn. You can't have too many or you may risk wiping the raid when he hatches them at 35%. On the other hand, taking out more dragonhawks sacrifices dps on the actual boss itself. Our group is a little light on AOE. We are running with only 1 mage and no warlocks so killing dragonhawks haven't been really smooth. Hopefully we get him down next time. Anyone having issues with this boss?
We have been successfully clearing the bear boss within 20 minutes. Having some plus hit if your tanking the bear boss is crucial. So make sure you either regem, replace some gear with +hit or eat some Spicy Hot Talbuk instead of stamina food if you are a little low on +hit. I can manage losing some stamina for this fight for +hit because we are running with 3 well geared healers and at the same time I have a well balanced gear to afford losing some stamina for +hit.

We've definitely struggled on this boss largely b/c it's incredibly difficult to drill into the raids head that boss dps doesn't matter. We are either trying to take too many and AOE or hitting the boss too hard. Basically, we keep trying to do the fight in 5 minutes instead of in 8 to 9 minutes. Our last attempt I finally drilled this into the teams head and it resulted in a brilliant attempt that was very close to successful except 3 people lost focus and died on the firebomb game near the end. It's definitely a tricky fight.
I think if you can get a mage + a lock in there you guys will get it b/c by the sound of it you understand the importance of the fact that it's a 10 minute fight, not a 5 minute one.
Are you using your Paladin tank on this fight to help with the Dragonhawks that hatch?
Basically, I take one side and we kill the Hatcher on the other side.
We haven't gotten him down yet, but we think it's more a firebomb issue than an add control issue.
This boss gave us a lot of trouble. He's by far the hardest of the avatars in ZA.
Here is what we changed to make him easier.
I tank him in the middle to start, then when the hatchers come I move him into a corner. We pick 1 side to get all the eggs out of first and we have 1 person kill the 2nd hatcher. Everyone in the raid should go into the room where you plan on killing eggs. They have to actually go inside the room too, they can't sit in the hallway. Have a hunter lay a frost trap under the hatcher so if you get ported before you finish the dragonhawks it isn't a wipe. By pulling the boss into a corner and having the rest of the raid (not including 2 people healing me) in the room it limits the aoe dmg from his flame breath as it is LOS-able.
When we have the raid go into the hatcher room, we try to send a paladin in to heal them. You can single target the first 2 hatches they do, the 3rd one you have to start limited aoe. Have a paladin lay down a consecrate in the room and heal w/ righteous fury on. The pally should also be very quick with his BOP button.
We let the hatcher do 4 hatches the first time, then 3 on every other time. The reason for that is you have more time before a teleport on the first hatching.
Also during the course of the fight he will teleport you at a bad time and will turn a 3 hatch into a 4 hatch.
On our last kill there was actually a miscommunication with who was supposed to kill the hatcher and he did a whole side of eggs at once lol. We had a mage BOP'd and were able to take them down luckily and it turned the fight into a joke (1 egg left unspawned at 35%).
If you have a lot of eggs left at 35% have everyone collapse on you very quickly and challenging shout/shield wall. Just note that means you will get many stacks of their increased fire dmg debuff. If possible use last stand/trinkets/healthstones after the dragonhawks are dead because you'll be taking a ton of dmg if targetted by the bosses flame breath. You can also have a pally/priest start cleansing the stacks off you.
Sorry if this is a jumbled mess, I'm just writing things down as I remember them:)
If you want some motivation, Hex Lord and Zul'Jin are pretty easy:)
Honor, I am OTing for this fight and I agree with you having a pally consecrate is way easier.
We run out of time on our last good try. We had ZERO dragonhawks, none on the left and right but we didn't make the 10 minute enrage timer.
So it all boils down to trying to manage dps while killing dragonhawks.
Good thoughts all. We are still struggling to down this boss too, but the others leading up to Dragonhawk Avatar are easily farmed by us. I will your strat and see how it runs.
