Gnomeragan Auto-Blocker Impressions

I finally decided to go for it last night and spent all 41 Heroic Badges on a trinket. Tell you guys what? I am somewhat disappointed. Without the trinket activated, I was doing around 500 Shield Slam damage, with the trinket turned on its around 700. When it crits, it does around 1500. Not bad, but personally I don't think it is something to be excited about.

One thing I will need to see is how much this thing is helping with the damage reduction. Since this is increasing block value it would be interesting how much damage it is reducing. Here is the formula: X = [(Shield block value * 1.3) + ((
Strength / 20) - 1)]. Where in X will be the amount of damage reduced and block. (1.3 will be the increase because of a warrior's Shield Specialization talent.). I will do some further comparision and get some kind of mod (scrolling combat text) to see the block values.

Don't sweat it

Your block value only is affected by Strength and your current Shield (and talents, of course). Just attack a mob your your shield equipped and wait for a block (or use SB). In the combat log you should see "Mob hits you for 43 (292 blocked", in this case, 292 is your Block Value.

You can unequip the trinket ans see how much your SBV is reduced

What I heard first was that Gnomergan Auto blocker was THE thing to get for your badges if u wanted to tank better.

After reading Berg's Tank Gear Rankings over at Tankspot I have re-evaluated. It ends up on place 19 and is called a PvP/soloing toy.

I will get it also - but it will go for the helm first.

The real value of the auto blocker doesn't come until later in 25 man instances.

Eventually you will have problems holding agro over your dps. The reason being is that tanks have to get gear that provides stam, avoidance, mitigation, and dps/threat. Mages, Locks, Hunters, and Rogues can just get gear to hit harder and faster.

If you notice the tier 5 set is very heavy in block value. The reason being that block value becomes one of the most dynamic stats you can get for tanking later in the game. It provides mitigation and threat. When you block you still take dmg and still generate rage. So you're getting more rage, shield slams are hitting a lot harder, and you still have enough mitigation to keep your healers happy.

I *LOVE* my Auto-Blocker! It is great for generating early aggro, pop this trinket and watch your TPS soar! 1700 shield slam crits equate to huge aggro.

Give it more time, you'll grow to love it!

There is little more to add to what Kyrillian said on the topic of why shield block is important. One thing i have to comment is that with block, despite having 2 charges for warriors it is a manual use and you can use it whenever you have rage which ofcourse you khow.

Personally i don't like relying on luck factors through dodge/parry and having a high SBV make melee dps mitigation a lot more reliable and smooth.
